CranioSacral Therapy is a light-touch approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.
The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face, and mouth, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum, or tailbone area. The rise and fall of the cerebrospinal fluid creates a natural physiologic rhythm called the craniosacral rhythm which is just like the cardiac and respiratory rhythm. The craniosacral rhythm travels along fascial pathways from the core of the body to the periphery.
Since this vital system influences the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord, an imbalance or restriction in it could potentially cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. These problems could include chronic pain, eye difficulties, scoliosis, motor-coordination impairments, learning disabilities and other health challenges.
The body often retains the imprint of physical forces from accidents, injuries, and emotional trauma. If these imprints are not addressed, more energy is required to perform normal bodily functions. The adaptive pattern of the body loses its effectiveness and symptoms and dysfunction begin to appear. CranioSacral Therapy assists in the release of this stored energy from the body and mind through a variety of hands-on, dialoguing, and imagery techniques.
During a CranioSacral Therapy session, you will be fully clothed while relaxing on a comfortable padded table. The rhythm of your CranioSacral system is monitored throughout the session to guide me to areas of restriction and imbalance. Delicate manual techniques are used to assist the body in releasing the restriction and relieving undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord.
Because it is such a gentle form of treatment, CranioSacral Therapy can be effective for all ages, from newborns to elders.
